February 2020
This piece chronicles the history of D.C.'s independent movie scene and reflects on local perspectives as independent theaters struggle to survive in the city.
I looked through historical records and archived data about theater closures for this piece. My sources were local experts who helped me cover a wide-ranging and emotional story.

This is a profile piece that I loved writing about an inspiration young woman in Washington, D.C. It combines my skills in feature writing and political writing.

During the coronavirus pandemic, independent bookstores have had to create innovative ways to sell books to a now-eager nation looking for entertainment.
I was able to profile three different stores, each handling the pandemic in drastically different ways, to craft a narrative that looks deeper into small local businesses.

This piece is one of my many film pieces. I used the film "Paris Is Burning" to discuss the social and political intersection of Black Lives Matter and Pride Month. I dive into this film's story and talk about how its message still has much to teach us.
